Configure the ports

1. In the BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click Ports.

2. In the Connection list, click a port.

3. Click Configure Port.

4. Perform one of the following actions:

BlackBerry Desktop Software

You can distribute the BlackBerry Desktop Software version 4.0 to user computers to maintain

handhelds without administering the handhelds from the administration computer. Using the Desktop

Software components to upgrade BlackBerry Handheld Software and transfer data from the messaging

and collaboration server to handhelds decreases the use of the wireless network.

Obtain the BlackBerry Desktop Software installation files from the BlackBerry Desktop Software

installation CD, from your service provider, or by visiting www.blackberry.com/support.

Desktop Software configurations

There are three Desktop Software version 4.0 configurations that you can push to user computers.

Action Procedure

Enable a port. 1. Click Enabled.

2. From the drop-down list, select True.

Disable a port. 1. Click Enabled.

2. From the drop-down list, select False.

Set the port speed. 1. Click Port Speed.

2. From the drop-down list, select a port speed.

Support a USB to serial adapter connection. 1. Click USB to serial adapter support.

2. From the drop-down list, select True.

Note: USB to serial adaptor connections can be problematic. Research In

Motion recommends not using USB to serial adapter connections.

Desktop Software configurations Description

BlackBerry Handheld Manager • allows data transfer using the BlackBerry Router instead of over the wireless network

when the handheld is connected to the user computer

• allows handheld application data to be backed up and restored when upgrading

Handheld Software using the BlackBerry Application Loader

• displays statistics on the user computer of data transferred using the BlackBerry

Router while bypassing the wireless network

• tracks data transfer through the network to show wireless data transfer savings using

the BlackBerry Router
