Deploying handhelds using the

administration computer

You can deploy handhelds by connecting them to the administration computer. This method enables you

to control the activation and initial deployment of multiple handhelds. You can also upgrade the

Handheld Software before deploying the handheld to a user. See

“Upgrade handhelds using the

administration computer” on page 36 for more information.

Assign a software configuration to a user

1. In the BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click Handhelds.

2. In the User Name list, click the user to assign the software configuration to.

3. Click Assign Software Configuration.

4. Click the software configuration to assign.

5. Click OK.

Assign a handheld to a user

Assigning a handheld to a user associates the handheld with the user’s email account and installs

service books on the handheld.

1. Connect the handheld to the administration computer on which the BlackBerry Manager is installed.

2. In the BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click Handhelds.

3. In the User Name list, click the user to assign to the handheld.

4. Click Assign Handheld to User.

5. Click the handheld to assign to the user.

6. Click OK.

Field Description

Set the number of days to go back to prepopulate email

messages upon.

! In the Prepopulation By Message Age field, set the

number of days to go back.

Set the maximum number of email messages to prepopulate. ! In the Prepopulation By Message Count field, set the

total number of messages.

Turn email prepopulation off. ! In the Prepopulation By Message Age field, type 0.

Tip: To select multiple users, hold CTRL.
