Handheld Management Guide
Defining Handheld Software configurations
You define software configurations to load Handheld Software applications using the BlackBerry
Manager, to assign application control policies to users, to send and administer third-party software
applications on handhelds, and to make sure that the most current version of Handheld Software is
running on handhelds. Software configurations create more uniformity between the software
applications that are installed on handhelds and require less interaction with the BlackBerry Manager
when installing software applications on handhelds.
To set a software configuration for a handheld, you must install the Handheld Software associated with
that handheld on the administration computer and share the location where the Handheld Software
resides. See
“Install Handheld Software” on page 34 and “Share Handheld Software and upgrade tools”
on page 35 for more information.
Set a software configuration
1. In the BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click Software Configurations.
2. Click Add New Configuration.
3. In the Configuration Name field, type a name.
4. In the Configuration Description field, type a description.
5. Define the location of the Handheld Software by clicking Change.
